SSC CGL Quantitative Aptitude — Complete Notes
1. Number System
The number system is the foundation of quantitative aptitude. Key concepts include:
- Natural Numbers: 1, 2, 3, ... (positive integers)
- Whole Numbers: 0, 1, 2, 3, ... (natural numbers + 0)
- Integers: ...-3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3... (all positive and negative)
- Rational Numbers: Numbers expressible as p/q where q ≠ 0
- LCM and HCF: LCM × HCF = Product of two numbers (for exactly two numbers)
2. Percentage
Percentage is one of the most frequently tested topics. Remember:
- x% of y = y% of x (very useful shortcut)
- If A is r% more than B, then B is less than A by [r/(100+r)] × 100%
- Successive discounts of a% and b%: Net discount = a + b – ab/100
3. Simple and Compound Interest
SI = (P × R × T) / 100
CI = P[(1 + R/100)^T – 1]
Difference between CI and SI for 2 years = P(R/100)²
4. Geometry — Important Formulas
- Area of triangle = ½ × base × height; for equilateral = (√3/4)a²
- Pythagoras theorem: a² + b² = c² (right triangle)
- Circle: Area = πr², Circumference = 2πr
- Cylinder: Volume = πr²h, CSA = 2πrh
5. Trigonometry Basics
- sin²θ + cos²θ = 1
- 1 + tan²θ = sec²θ
- 1 + cot²θ = cosec²θ
Tip: For SSC CGL, focus on Tier-1 weightage: Arithmetic (40%), Algebra (20%), Geometry (20%), Trigonometry (20%).
